Things to bring when
you pick up your Labrador puppy. ~A box or carrier lined with towels and a change of towels. ~An
old blanket to cover seat under box or carrier. ~A roll of paper towels for accidents. ~A plastic trash bag. ~Baby wipes or wet wipes. ~A bottle of water and a dish. (only for a long trip) Puppies won't
need any food until you get home, and probabaly won't eat for a day or so anyway. If they will not eat the second
day, try soaking the puppy food in water for about 3 hours to soften it, this seems to help. Each pup is eating about
3/4 to 1 cup of puppy food three times a day. The pup will take some time to adjust to it's new home. If puppy won't
eat or seems shy, that will change very quickly. The pup will cry for a couple of nights, this is normal, but very annoying.
Sometimes letting them sleep with you lets both of you get a lot more sleep. Please don't leave the pup unattended
someplace where they can dig under or climb over a fence until they are used to their new home.
Please call if you have any concerns or questions.
From the Labrador Retriever Breed Standard:
"The Labrador Retriever coat colors are black, yellow and chocolate. Any other color or a combination
of colors is a disqualification. A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable." No other colors are recognized. Although, other colors can, and
do, occur. Brindling, black and tan, dilution of the chocolate gene which gives a chocolate a gray (or silver) appearance.
These colors are a disqualifying fault, and are incorrect for the breed. Do not be fooled into buying a labrador puppy that the breeder claims has a "rare"
color. A reputable responsible breeder will tell you if a puppy has a mismark or an incorrect coloration and will require
you to spay or neuter that dog to prevent this fault from being passed on to future litters. Mismarked or incorrect coloration does not affect the ability for the affected labrador to be
be a good pet. A labrador is an excellent pet regardless of its coat color. The link below is a guide for determining what coat colors you can expect from a given
breeding.
